Especially on instagram I get asked very often what kind of equipment I use and what a good set-up for beginners is. So here comes your answer, well, at least step by step! In the following articles I am going to describe which bodies and lenses I own (or have owned earlier) and which additional equipment helps me shooting.
Though I already photograph wildlife for a couple of years now, I still see myself as a passionate amateur. But anyway there’s come together a lot of gear during all those years and one of the hardest lessons I had to learn is that it doesn’t matter how good you think you are prepared, when it counts you ususally don’t have the thing you need at your fingertips or even mounted the wrong lense. But hey, we are wildlife photographers and nature isn’t something you can plan thoroughly, right? No need to be scared though, there are quite a few little or big things that can be of great help on a photographic safari and to achieve your indivual photographic goals.
First things first: the articles regarding my equipment contain affiliate links from Amazon.com. That means I am a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for me to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. So I receive a commission if you click the link and buy something from their site (the price you pay is not affected); by doing so, you support the work I put into this blog. Many thanks in advance!
Since I did my first photographic steps in 2008, I trust in Canon equipment. They have an enormous market penetration, so there’s a huge community of great photographers willing to share their knowledge and experience and also there are quite continuous offers, sales, cashback promotions at a large number of retailers. AND, way more important, there’s a gigantic second hand market. Almost every bigger (not to say: expensive) lense I own did I get second hand, as a non-professional photographer I didn’t even have a different option! But that is okay and even today I still look for second hand offers before buying new, it’s amazing what great deals you can get when investing a little time to do a research.
But enough banter, let’s get it on. Hope you enjoy the blog and any feedback or your thoughts in the comments section would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
